This blog is my collection of notes and writings about my theories of language; namely, that it's a self-organized system, much as traffic is, and that perception should be at the center of the equation. The name, strangler2theloop, which forms its URL can be explained as a crucial place in Chicago traffic; whether this particular piece of road is bottled up is of utmost importance to Chicago commuters. But, back to language: a language can be seen as an entire system best described as a self-organized system, one which is created entirely by its own individual users; one which literally has no rules or overriding structural requirements; and finally, one which changes systematically according to scientific principles that dictate how systems react to stimuli. The posts here reflect these ideas, but come from all aspects of my life teaching linguistics and ESL.
